Biographies

We have been fortunate to place several canines this year.   I'm happy to announce a couple of the canines were trained by two up and coming trainers.

Britton Munoz has trained his first dog, Mal,  Neco for narcotics.  Mal has been sold and is out on the street making great seizures. Congratulations to Britt for a job well done.

Kathy Jacobsen has also had a great year.  Kathy has enjoyed an excellent career as a field dog trainer and AKC Judge.   Kathy's background facilitated the transition into working with training and scent theory for narcotic dogs.   She has successfully trained a black lab  "Raven."  We rescued this lab as a puppy, raised him and started him early in his training.  Raven's new handler and Raven have succeeded in completing handler training and certification through ASCT. In addition to her transition into training narcotics dogs, Kathy - with the help of Chief Hugh Miller and me in my bite suit -   has learned how to deploy a patrol dog. Congratulations Kathy!

Jason Coutts continues his learning experience as well. Jason has just achieved, with honors, his college degree in Business Management and Criminal Justice.  Jason has also received an upgrade in leadership with ASCT - he is now a Instructor.  Attending schools and earning the points needed to advance in the organization was not an easy task to complete.  ASCT does not do the “Good ole Boys” way of advancing within the organization.  (Plus I would challenge anyone to take the written test and pass it with 100% correct answers.)  Jason attended various schools in various parts of the country.  One of the schools was here in Cottage Grove, OR, whereas another of the schools was in Bozeman, Montana.   Britton and Jason drove to Bozeman, MT - well Britt slept most of the way.  ASCT schools are very intense.   The neuro-science classes were hard to learn.  Retaining the abundance of information was a challenge.  Educated with the top quality instruction given in the ASCT coursework,  Jason is looking forward with confidence to employing this information as he works with new handlers and  in giving court testimonies.
At one of the events, Master Instructor Chris Aycock - unexpectedly - surprised Jason by having him present a couple of classes.

We just completed our school in North Bend, OR and are preparing for Elko, NV this September, 2009.

If you never have been to an ASCT school you should try one.  It is all work and well worth every bit of it.  There is no standing around eating donuts and drinking coffee.  At ASCT we want quality, not quantity.
