Oregon K9 pride themselves in the training of Police K9 dogs. We have placed quite a few working dogs in the United States, Canada and through a distributor in Latin America
We have trained quite a few Narcotic dogs and placed them by either donating them to departments that have a limited funding problem and helped start new programs for a department that realizes that the war on Narcotics is won thru the drug dog.
Our breeding program of working dogs, mainly German Shepherds, have advanced to place our own dogs that we have bred into the working jobs. We have a Breeder / Trainer in Eastern Canada that helped us through the pedigrees of our dogs develop a dog that is social and willing to commit to work. This is the balance of what we expect from our dogs. Not like the hard dogs imported that make the public and department programs rely on liability law suits.
Our Labrador program has produced several outstanding dogs placed into department for the narcotic programs. these dogs are trained to search all the time when they enter the room or enter a car because they want to. We rescue dogs from shelters that have the drives for the work. The dog was put there usually because he was a highly bred dog and is usually causing problems within the home. The owner surrenders the dog to the shelter and when we can we test the dog and see if it has the drives. Sometimes a reliable rescue will call us for the placement of the dog
All the dogs we work with and train are evaluated and tested for workability, commitment, sociability, and because they want to do what they are bred for. Working.
Our Patrol dogs are trained for Tracking, Suspect Apprehension, Officer Protection and Obedience. The dogs are tested constancy and evaluated for their ability to work and train in different environments and demanding pressure of the work. We train only with all our dogs real deployment training. That means our dogs a trained in apprehension bites with bite suits. Training a police k9 with a bite sleeve only is not, in our opinion, proper training and testing of the proper K9 deployment.
Our Narcotic dogs are trained for all four basic odors. We believe in more free searching that the most common type of searching on lead. But we train both styles.
We have trained dogs here for sale but will train a dog for an owner if it meets our high standards and drives that the work will demand. So the testing of these dogs are important and must meet our high standards
